Founded in January 2024 by Ileane Barrera CC'26 and David Huerta CC'25, the Columbia Undergraduate Law Review began a partnership with the Double Discovery Center at Columbia University to introduce New York City high school students to the legal field through a student-led course. Taught as part of the Center's Saturday Academy, their course, Introduction to Legal Writing, covered topics such as the structure of the legal system, landmark and significant court cases, and the process of writing a legal article. In addition, students had the opportunity to engage with Columbia law students and attorneys. Students were given the choice to conduct research and write an argumentative essay on a legal case of their choice, with instructors providing guidance throughout the revision and editing process. As of January 2025, the course is ongoing and has taught 38 students.

Constitutional Freedoms in the Age of Technology

The Constitution is written for the people, ensuring that government corruption and tyranny don't restrict individual freedoms. Several amendments were written to keep power in check, the most crucial being the First Amendment, which guarantees freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Interestingly, recent advancements in technology have made both the federal government and the average person reevaluate whether or not the right to speak your mind as protected by the Constitution needs an update.
